My previous full-length poetry collections are Magic Shows (Cleveland State) and Second Wind (Texas Tech). The most recent of my four chapbooks is Stutter Monk (Flume Press). With Kate Sontag I co-edited the essay anthology, After Confession: Poetry as Autobiography (Graywolf Press).
My poems have been published in such journals as Prairie Schooner, The Cortland Review, and Sycamore Review, and featured on Poetry Daily and The Writers Almanac.
I retired in 2016 from teaching writing and literature at Ripon College, where I also hosted their Visiting Writers Series for twenty-eight years. I have served on The Poets’ Prize Committee and the Wisconsin Poet Laureate Commission and was a Resident Poet as well as faculty member at The Frost Place in Franconia, New Hampshire. Currently I am a contributing editor for Verse-Virtual, where I also contribute a monthly column, “Poetic License,” on poetry and poets.
I now live in our native upstate New York with my wife, the artist Lee Shippey.
